The Lost Leaders

In the first quarter of 2015, we ran a survey asking about senior level staff turnover in the mining industry. More than 450 mining professionals answered three brief questions about their personal experiences:

 

  • Thinking about your current or most recent employer, how many people in the top five site-based management positions have left the organisation in the last 12 months?
  • Thinking about your current or most recent employer, how many people in the top five corporate or executive management positions have left the organisation in the last 12 months?
  • Thinking about your own career intentions, at what point will you consider taking a role with another organisation?

The results indicate an industry in which turnover in the most senior positions has reached levels that should concern any organisation with an interest in continuity and talent retention.
